What’s a “Hero Spot” and why does it matter?
The Hero spot is the section that your customers see first when they visit your site. It’s the very very most important! You have 8 seconds in which to connect to your customers. They need to know:
- What you’re selling
- Who it’s for
- Why it matters/what problem your thing solves.
And they need to know it all in one glance. No pressure right?!
Your customers need to see (within 8 seconds!) something they relate to that makes them go, “ooh, that’s interesting!” or, “I like that!” or, “yes! I need that!” So the key here is knowing how to relate to your customers.
People want to feel connected to what they’re buying. This is your shot to make a connection that draws them in to want to find out more.
Then the following sections add layers of connection and info that lead your customer through all the things they want/need to know to feel comfortable and excited to purchase from you. Confident, excited customers come back and this is a huge part of building a sustainable business.
The important thing to remember here is:
You are not the hero of your business. Don’t be tempted to overly make things about you. Your customer is the lens here, always.
You are the CEO and general genius that makes it all tick, but this HERO spot is for a picture of your best-selling product and a quick summary of the above 1, 2, 3 points.
Simple, effective taglines that tell your customers at a glance what you’re selling and why that matters to them can be tricky, so we always recommend getting some help with this bit. It needs to be quick and snappy and straight to the point. Paragraphs of info are for other places on your site.
